'Yoncalla' Reviews

We currently know 6 reviews for "Yoncalla" by Yumi Zouma. The album received pretty solid reviews among the critics and is one of the better ones this year.

"Yoncalla is one of the year’s strongest debuts right behind the devastating Wriggling by Abi Reimold. Unlike that album, however, Yoncalla is a ray of sunshine warming through a glass window."

80 % PopMatters
"Yoncalla isn’t earth-shattering--everything sort of blends together, as is often the way with most dream pop records. But what does it matter when it’s the sort of album that makes you feel good."

80 % The Line of Best Fit
"For Yoncalla the band finally recorded together. You can hear it. It’s the sound of a band in room."

80 % DIY Magazine
"Yoncalla highlights all the best elements of Yumi Zouma, wrapped up in some of the prettiest music they’ve made yet."

74 % Pitchfork
"Only "Better When I'm by Your Side," which hews a little too closely to the Lorde template, does anything to darken the mood. It's a tiny stumble that does little to detract from the pleasing nature of the rest of the album."

70 % AllMusic
"Yoncalla borrows heavily from the ‘70s and ‘80s while never seeming anything less than modern--but Yumi Zouma seem to have stumbled upon a formula that separates them just enough to pique interest."
